Raattinam review

This is yet another movie talking about teenage love and its repercussions. Set in Tuticorin, we have a street smart guy falling for a school girl after some funny encounters; his friend being at the receiving end of these encounters.

Trouble follows soon as neither family is ready for a compromise. The usual 'running away from home and getting married' routine is followed but, the marriage is annulled due to the fact that the girl is a minor.

After this, the pair is separated and what happens to them post the hiatus, is the remaining part of the movie. Save the last 20 minutes, nothing is new. The finale is quite different and makes an impact.

The acting in the movie is adequate with the hero being a smart rural cookie. The heroine looks like a typical school girl with pimples, warts et al. The support characters bring a 'TV soap' effect but are passable.

The songs are catchy particularly Yele Yepulla and the movie also has plenty of light hearted moments thanks to the school kids and the hero's friends.

FINAL WORD: Nothing special save the finale which stands out from the 'run of the mill' climaxes.
