Amélie (2001)

The movie is a simple feel good tale about a goodhearted but very introverted young lady called Amelie who helps all the people around her by giving them the small pleasures in life. But she takes a long time to finally get united with her love, due to her uncertain and shy ways with him. Finally, the movie ends in harmony for all the characters involved which brings a smile on the lips for sure.

The narration style, the beautiful BGM score replete with accordions and harmonicas and the way Paris has been captured in a very realistic manner make Amelie a very endearing movie. There are many characters and due to the non-linear style, sometimes it becomes tough to follow the movie but it falls in place pretty soon.

All the support characters have a cute role in the proceedings but all of them turn out to be depressing and sad until Amelie turns around their life. Lucien stands out though with his 'life is beautiful' attitude. The failed writer is another optimistic character.

Audrey Tautou as Amelie is uber cute and charming with her hairdo and lovely smile. Perfect makeover that suits her role. The young Amelie is also unbelievably beautiful and her reactions are so natural.

FINAL WORD: Simple feelgood movie with many characters and a slow moving screenplay. Endearing nevertheless.
