Chaarulatha review

1.5 / 5

The Plot
After being in the news for being about conjoined twins, Charulatha released recently. It is about two conjoined twins Charu (calm) and Latha (more outspoken) who are at peace with each other for more than 20 years until they fall in love with the same man (Ravi). After this, possessiveness and jealousy play spoilsport.

Only one of them is able to live on and be close to Ravi while the other becomes a haunted spirit in their family home. There is a suspense twist regarding the sister who is alive which gets revealed in the second half. This twist isn't shocking.

In the end, does the spirit lay to rest and does the other sister live with Ravi are issues that the movie resolves.

Cheers
  • Novelty factor - being about conjoined twins. The VFX for these scenes are also pretty neat. The scenes around the violin lessons are good.
  • Priyamani's performance particularly in the last 20 mins
Jeers
  • Snail paced screenplay save the finale
  • Boring most of the way
  • Bad songs except the title credits song
  • Shoddy BGM by Sundar C Babu which lets down the horror and thrill quotient.
  • Irritating comedy track featuring a fat young boy and the obese Arthi.
  • Uninspiring hero. He retains a constipated look most of the times.
  • Tacky graphics especially the scenes involving the priest and his poojas.
  • Not scary enough. The same template repeats often.
FINAL WORD
Save the finale of the movie, it is pretty boring and lethargic. Catch it on TV ...
