This is a Russian family drama.
After a 12 yrs absence, the father of 2 boys suddenly returns home. He wishes to spend time with them and takes them out on a trip. The elder one is more forthcoming and welcomes his father while the younger one is seething with anger and frustration at his father's resurfacing after a long absence
The younger one always complains and never obeys the father. The father on his part, also has trouble is articulating his affection. He is rough and makes sure the boys are always given some work or the other.
Just when the younger one bursts out all his frustrations and the father is about to understand his kid, the unexpected happens and it is a truly shattering and ironic end to this tale.
The photography is breathtaking. The frames are picture perfect and there is hardly any person around in all the scenic countryside locales. This movie is a must watch for all budding photographers and DOPs.
The 2 brothers are truly life-like with the younger one being the more natural of the two. Great show in the final scene.
VERDICT: A true slice of life, as real as possible with breathtaking locations and one shattering climax.
