2 / 5
With huge hype backing it, this K.V.Anand extravaganza features Suriya in double roles as conjoined twins. Kajal Aggarwal is the female lead along with two other Russian ladies. Harris Jayaraj joins hands with the Anand – Suriya team after the successful Ayan. The music was launched in Singapore yesterday in a grand event.
"Rettai Kadire" (Lyrics by Na Muthukumar)
Krish, Balaji, Mili & Sharmila
This should be a treat on screen given the conjoined twins about whom this song is about. Musically there is nothing different in this with the pumping beats lifting the song. The string instrumentals before the second stanza also stand out while the English lyrics are in keeping with the current fad. Have to say, this song sounded great in the teaser.
"Kaal Mulaitha Poove" (Lyrics by Madhan Karky) … Thumbs Up
Javed Ali & Mahalakshmi Iyer
The gibberish words are back. The starting accordion notes stand out in this number which has a flamenco touch thanks to the rhythmic tapping sounds. There are dramatic opera touches and the instrumental patterns have a Russian flavor. On the whole, it is a joyful and energetic number with the vocals being pretty energetic. Something different!!!
"Theeyae Theeyae" (Lyrics by Pa. Vijay)
Aalaap Raju & Charulatha Mani
The song has mild Arabic shades with nice beats. The tempo is high from the start while there are many quirky techno sounds that you generally hear in club numbers. The end product is passable thanks to the high pace of the song.
"Yaaro Yaaro" (Lyrics by Thamarai)
Karthik & Priya Himesh
This is a pathos number with Karthik lending his soft vocals. The native percussions and instrumentals have been kept mellow and subtle. There is nothing special about this number and would probably pick up with visuals. Even the humming that comes before the second stanza has been heard before in other pathos songs by Harris like Yamma Yamma.
"Naani Koni" (Lyrics by Viveka)
Vijay Prakash, Karthik & Shreya Ghoshal
A 'run of the mill' tune to round off the album. The string instrumental interludes stand out along with the guitar touches. Amid all the renowned singers in this number, Karthik delivers as always when he comes in the second stanza while Shreya is typically expressive.
Verdict: Kaal Mulaitha Poove and Rettai Kadhire are the better of the lot. On screen, KV Anand's magic might do the trick but the songs as such aren't special. Most of them fall under the heard before category...
