Ek main aur ekk tu movie review

Another glossy rom-com from Bollywood, inspired by similar such Holly love flicks. Has a contrasting couple in the form of a boyish but uptight Rahul & a jovial and bubbly Riana. Rahul has just been fired from his job while Riana has been dumped. They cross paths a few times before getting married overnight in Vegas after a drinking binge on Christmas night. They decide to get the marriage annulled but their journey together is destined for more.

Rahul falls in love with Riana slowly and he turns around his life in a more cheerful manner thanks to Riana's influence. Riana on the other hand, treats Rahul as her best friend and even takes him to India for him to lighten up his mood. Rahul finally gets the courage to speak his mind out to his parents who are obsessed with his looks, habits and career.

Just as we expect Riana to slowly start reciprocating Rahul's love, the ending is something unexpected. She stays firm in her stand and maintains that she is just a great friend to him. Rahul turns around his life and the two stay friends forever.

Review
  • Imran Khan sets the benchmark for boyish charm and turns in an engaging performance. Towards the end, he is top class. His dressing, his style sense are all very "boy next door" types.
  • Kareena Kapoor delivers as expected. The parents have all done well, be it Riana's cheerful parents or Rahul's socially conscious parents.
  • The songs by Amit Trivedi are a major plus. The BG score by Clinton fits the mood as well. The locations in the movie are fresh and glossy. Rich production values.
  • Some classy scenes like the scene when Riana calls Rahul the perfect average guy, when Rahul is about to kiss Riana but she refuses, when Rahul burst out to his parents and the climax
  • The editing is nice and the chapter style is new to Indian films. The chapters could have been named better though.
  • The dialogs are cheeky, humorous and quite progressive for a typical Indian film.
VERDICT
A familiar romantic premise lifted by Imran Khan and the different ending. Worth a watch.

Hits
  • It's Katrina Kaif's movie completely. What style, attitude, cuteness and energy. She acts very well nowadays.
  • Imran Khan is boyish, charming and very handsome. Decent show
  • Ali Zafar is debonair and acts well as the cool dude London brother. His girl friend Piya looks hot too.
  • The songs by Sohail Sen are a major plus. Very colorfully picturized too. Dhunki, Choomantar, the title song, Madhubala etc. etc. Aural and visual treat.
  • The first half is very likable and moves like a dream.
  • A lot of popular Bollywood characters have been spoofed most notably My Name is Khan's SRK. Good fun ...
Comments
  • The second half has all the typical Bollywood drama elements. The drama before the climax in particular is needless
VERDICT

Delhi Belly (2011)

The Plot
A bag of diamonds are replaced mistakenly with a bag of shit by 3 friends Tashi, Nitin and Arup. Tashi's girlfriend Sonia, an air-hostess is actually supposed to smuggle these diamonds unknowingly but, she hands it over to Tashi and the bag passes hands and finally turns into shit when it reaches the gangster that it is supposed to reach

The gangsters begin their hunt for the diamonds and they nab the 3 guys. But, a comedy of errors follow and the diamonds again land up with the 3 guys who sell it off. The gangsters kidnap Sonia and demand the diamonds back from the trio. They take the help of Menaka, Tashi's boss and one sided lover to save Sonia.

What happens to the gangsters, the diamonds and Tashi's love life is the culmination which is in true Guy Ritchie style with cops, shootouts et al. Aamir Khan makes an appearance in the end with a funny number.

Hits

  • Absolute contempt for Indian cinema's traditions and values. Liberal use of expletives, exposure of skin and cheap jokes that make us laugh
  • 2 smoking hot ladies and they have some intense smooches and ****jobs with the lead man. The climatic smooch is in fact scorching and the kiss in the 'parda' is equally pulse-raising.
  • The lighthearted nature of the content. Perfect timepass.
  • The fat guy Nitin is perfect for the role of the guy with a troublesome tummy who farts regularly.
  • The climax is particularly the clincher. Reminds us of some cult English films.
Misses
  • The shitty jokes are overdone and are not in good taste after a certain point.
  • Imran Khan is very plastic and artificial. His looks are good, nevertheless.
  • 'Bhaag DK Bose' could have been picturized entirely. Even as a montage, the song deserved its entirety and not just the bits and pieces that has come up on screen.
VERDICT
Justifies the hype well and the tagline even better
