Players (2012)

The first major release of 2012 is another heist movie involving players having different talents. Gold worth about 10000 crores is the target and a train moving from Russia to Romania is the carrier. All the cliches like prosthetic masks, technical gimmicks, explosions, chases, stunts, illusion etc etc are there in this too. The biggest take home is the uninhibited leg/thigh show by the girls in the movie.

Hits
  • Top notch production values - exotic locales, helicopter shots, decent VFX, nice stunts, rich look etc etc
  • Neil Nitin Mukesh is the only actor who impresses
  • The girls in the movie - Bipasha and Sonam have forgotten their bottoms. Uninhibited leg/thigh show. Too hot and it's totally worth the 10rs ticket. Sonam Kapoor's legs are something else. There is another lady in the movie who almost bares it 'all'. The camera has feasted and the guys like us feasted on the 'leg' treat too. Lovers of cleavage won't be disappointed too. Sonam and Bipasha have revealed whatever they have on top too.
  • Good sight seeing for the meager ticket amount. Auckland, Wellington, Russia etc. You name it. They got it.
Misses
  • Painfully long
  • Very weak star cast
  • The twists are predictable and expected too.
  • The chase sequences in the climax incite good laughs
  • Pathetic songs.
  • Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Aftab etc. A bunch of losers. How can a movie featuring this trio run?
  • The heist genre has been beaten to death. Chuck it guys.
VERDICT
Worth spending 10rs. The girls in the movie have put on a skin fest. Good sight seeing too.

Dum Maaro Dum (2011)

The Plot
How a lonely and aggressive police officer, Vishnu Kamath cleans up the drug racket in Goa is the plot. Kamath is after a major drug loot worth 670 crores that is stashed away somewhere in Goa.  He has his small team of 2 more cops. Lorsa Biscuta is the drug lord in Goa and many foreigners and locals work for him. Entire Goa is ruled by drugs and it leads to all the crimes.  Biscuta uses innocent, aspiring youngsters for his drug trafficking business. Lorry and Zoey are 2 such pawns that he uses. The former agrees for his education expenses and the latter agrees for her career as an air-hostess.

There is also a major mystery regarding Michael Barbosa, a mysterious character. In the end, everything becomes clear. Joki, Zoey's former lover is also involved in this as he wants to save Lorry. One of Kamath's trusted cops plays spoilsport and he is actually an informer to Biscuta. After many deaths, some needless, all the drugs are found and burnt in the end leaving Biscuta fuming. Joki also clears himself and Lorry of all the criminal charges and they get back to their normal lives in the end.

Hits

  • Abhishek Bachchan is picture perfect as the aggressive cop. Top class show. He looks the part as well.
  • Good songs by Pritam
  • The film moves very well in the initial stages due to some stylish editing and great visuals. Quite daring for Indian film standards.
  • Rana Daggubati looks macho and mean but is very limited in emoting. Bipasha Basu again looks fabulously sexy.
  • Prateik Babbar as the young Lorry is a natural. His childish voice also suits the part he plays
Misses
  • The film loses grip towards the end. A slow moving screenplay might be the reason.
  • The climatic twists are also not very shocking. They leave very little impact.
  • The decision to kill the lead police character really backfires. That too for a movie of this genre and that too after showing him in all his glory for most of the film.
VERDICT
Half baked attempt. Could have been much better given the promising plot and interesting initial scenes.

Dhoom 2 (2006)

What’s it about
2nd installment of the Dhoom series. This time Jai and Ali are after Aryan, a high profile high tech thief who steals only rare artifacts. Aryan leaves behind the A sign at all his crime scenes. He uses many disguises and getups to commit his thefts and heists. Shonali, a female bomb cop and Jai’s batch mate is also in Jai’s team in his pursuit of A.
Jai also uses Shoneri as a rat to infiltrate A’s plans. But Shoneri and Aryan fall in love and Shoneri is more loyal to her love than the police. Finally, Jai lets the lovers loose after they decide to put an end to their shady activities and lead a normal life as restaurateurs.
Loads of glamour, skin show, style, classy stunts, bike chases and MASALA.

Hits
  • Aishwarya Rai. OMG. What a woman. As Shoneri, she is super duper hot and her figure and body belie her age.
  • Bipasha Basu also oozes sex appeal in her dual role as Shonali and Monali, the sisters. While Shonali is a strong policewoman, Monali is a dumb bombshell.
  • Hrithik is as usual stylish. Abhishek, with his stubble suits the part of the serious policeman. Uday Chopra’s wise cracks and antics are as usual laughable.
  • Great production values. Rich sets, Brazilian locations. A rich glamour feast for the eyes
  • Nice songs and BGM by Pritam and co.

Misses
  • Hrithik’s many disguises are not always distinct. Easily identifiable.
  • Jai lets go of many chances to nab Aryan while committing the heists. It’s as if Jai wants Aryan to escape.
  • An unconvincing climax
  • Stunts go overboard be it Hrithik’s intro stunts or the climax stunt at the waterfalls.

VERDICT
Not as impressive and crisp as Dhoom 1. Still watch-able for the super hot lead ladies and the great production values.

Dhoom (2004)

Whats it about:
The film traces how Jai, a super cop nabs a biker gang which specializes in hi-tech robberies and heists. The biker gang is lead by Kabir. Jai takes the help of Ali, a local racer to eliminate the biking robbers after a few failed attempts
Side by side, we are also shown the romance between Jai and his wife Sweety in a very sexy manner, Ali's misfortune at getting his lady love, Ali's racing exploits and also some hardcore masala elements in the name of sexy songs.

Hits

  • Terrific stunt sequences in bikes, boats and what not. Thrilling stuff helped in no small measure by Nirav Shah
  • Foot tapping songs and BGM by Pritam and co.
  • Style all the way, be it Abhishek or John or a bikini clad Esha or the super sexy Rimi Sen or the super bikes
  • A celebration of Indian masala
Misses
  • Logic has been ignored. The genre is such, But, some stunts are definitely gravity defying, beautifully shot nevertheless.
VERDICT
Thrilling time-pass. Fun filled action extravaganza.
